Dirk Nowitzski announced his retirement last night. 41.21.1 - the #41, for 21 years, on 1 team.
They say he's played over 1,500 games, scored over 30,000 points, and had over 200 different teammates over his 21 years. Which is incredibly impressive for an NBA Hall-of-Famer. One team?? 21 years?? Crazy.
But I was wondering what that would look like for your ordinary Joe. You know - the Joe that's been at your company for 20+ years. Actually, there's David that's been here for 30+ years. But for this analogy we'll use Joe. I wonder how many hours he put it, how many colleagues he's worked with, how many meetings he's sat in on. A million. For sure.
There's 235 working days in a year, assuming ~15 days of vacation (which I don't have), 8 national holidays, and 3 sick days. Multiply that by 21 and that's over 4,900 days of work. But that seems really….boring. I guess that's what awesome talent and loyal fans get you. An upgraded retirement party.
