As a Christian, I do not doubt and I do not question this. I believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and that what is written is true and right.
"Marriage is between a man and a woman (Gen. 1:27-28; 2:18-25; Mal. 2:15; Matt. 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-9) and homosexual practice is sin (Lev. 18:22; 20:13; Rom. 1:18-32; 1 Cor. 6:9; 1 Tim. 1:10; Jude 7), but a sin from which we can be washed clean (1 Cor. 6:9-11)." --SOURCE
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
--Matthew 19:4-6
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her...Now, please do not begin to argue about how the bible condones blah blah and blah blah. Here's something that addresses some of that: link here, but I do not have a degree in theology, or history, (or anything actually). I am not here to argue, but simply to state my personal beliefs.
--Ephesians 5:25
I do not believe that gay marriage is right. (I have defined marriage under the biblical definition, a representation of the relationship between Christ and the church, between a man and a woman)
I do believe gay marriage is sinful, against what God originally designed.
With that said, I have quite liberal political views. 'Separation of church and state'; we cannot expect people who do not believe in Jesus to act and behave as if they do: post here. I do not think, with societies current trends, that the Supreme Court could have decided any other way. 37 states recognized same-sex marriage before the ruling. Thirty-seven.
Merriam-Websters defines marriage for both same and opposite sex members as: the state of being united to a person in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.
The Bible, unfortunately, is not the law.
The people make the law. "We the People" right? And as society moves further and further away from the Christian religion, we cannot expect the law to remain as it was.
I recognize and understand the legality and the importance of allowing gay marriage in our society and nation today.
HOWEVER, I do not celebrate in it, and nor do I support marriage outside of what God has dictated: marriage between male and female.
BUT as others have said, in the long run, nothing's really changed.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:23
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
The commandments...are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.THE END.
Romans 13:9-10
