Navigators Journey 2014 in Seymour, IN
Fran Sciacca was a great speaker. A personal summary?
"Disillusion is the child of illusion. The things that disappoint us most in the end, we had wrong from the beginning." As college students, this is a pertinent and relevant fear. What happens at the end of everything? We map out these plans for ourselves, our careers, success, lives. "We build boats for ourselves and then ask God to 'christen' us as we launch them." But ultimately, it'll all disappoint us. Why?
Our design determines our purpose. Just as a vacuum is designed to clean floors, and chair is designed as seating. Our design is by God, for the purpose of having a relationship with Him, and glorifying that. Everything we do should stem from that understanding.
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. It's not our plot, not our story. It's all His.
--2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Identity, Purpose, Mission. Your identity is not defined by what you can or can't do, or what you have or haven't done. Purpose comes from identity. Our purpose is all in God's plot, His grand story. Our mission then stems from that. Restoring God's peace, His presence.
THE END.
