Stepanintern

Sup.

As a broad overarching PSA, internships are not as glamorous as they seem to be.
You work your butt off in your coursework and organizations, pre-nights and interviews, etc, etc. But you'll get to your internship and discover, all you're really doing is an extra summer of what you'll have to do for the rest of your life.

Working.

And probably at a desk, in a cubicle, where you'll sit, for about 8 hours a day.

Granted, it's a test run, with a lot of safety padding. Think of it as a fully decked out car - the perks of nice speakers, a sun roof, keyless ignition, side cameras, bluetooth capabilities....but they're all just fluff for the inevitable task at hand - driving for forty hours down a very long road.

Please don't mistake my grumbling for ungratefulness.
I'm beyond thankful for this internship, and excited to have met so many cool people and in such a fast-paced and new environment. I work for a really cool company and I'm blessed to be here with such hardworking and intelligent people. It's been eye opening to see how everything and everyone works behind the scenes, and to be a part of it. I am a part of the team, the projects, the meetings, the e-mails. And I'm so thankful for that.

But at the same time, it's easy to see how career and wealth are so often unfulfilling and unsatisfying. There's just really not much to it. At the end of the day, it's just a job. It's work. Have I been working all my life just for this?

Who would have known, that at the end of it all, all the competition and put-downs, tears and late nights, grades and scores, studying and extracurricular-ing, that the majority of us would end up behind a desk?

Dear oh dear oh dear. They should warn kids about this in elementary school. In middle school. In high school. Teachers should tell their students to cherish their youth more, their freedom, their energy.

Praying that I'll find joy in my work, and to do it without so much complaining. And to cherish everything else I have in life.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
the end.
